You must not go home by yourself. Patients must be escorted home by a responsible adult and must remain in their care overnight and where possible 24 hours after the procedure.
• You may bathe and shower at any time 24 hours after the operation.
• The dressings are to ‘stop ooze’ from getting onto your clothes, so only a pad (not sterile) is necessary.
• If the pad sticks you may put Vaseline over the wound and stitches to avoid sticking.
• Some bruising, swelling and ooze from the wound is to be expected.
• The stitches will dissolve by themselves in 2-3 weeks.
• Expect to be uncomfortable for a few days until the swelling is resolved.
• You may take a mild painkiller, eg. Panadol or Panadeine Forte if you are really uncomfortable for a few days.
• No driving for 24 hours.
• You may be more comfortable wearing 2 pairs of jockey style briefs for support.
• Sexual activity can be resumed in 3-4 weeks.

Report any of the following to your surgeon:
• Temperature above 38
• Excessive pain or swelling
• Redness near your suture line
• Excessive wound discharge accompanied by an unpleasant odour.
